President Benigno Aquino III on Tuesday said that wants Filipino students to be armed with tablet computers instead of books soon.
In his speech during the launching of K+12 Basic Education program in MalacaƱang, Aquino said they are just waiting for the price of tablet computers to go down before the government procures them.
“Hinahabol po natin na yung ating mga reading materials ay magiging tablet-based,” he said.
With this, correction of the errors in the reading materials would be easier instead of recalling the whole batch of books.

He further said the government continues to address the shortages in school buildings and classrooms, training of teachers and procurement of reading materials through the P238.8 billion budget allocated to the Department of Education.
Aquino believed that with the K+12 program, Filipino students will have a stronger foundation for the future.
“Sa K to 12 tiwala tayong mabibigyang lakas si Juan de la Cruz upang mapaunlad hindi lamang ang kanyang sarili at pamilya kundi maging ang buong bansa,” he said.
“Wala man pong perpektong solusyon sa lahat ng bagay, ang garantiya pong ibinibigay natin ay isang mas matibay na sistemang pang-edukasyon na pang-matagalan at nakatuon sa kinabukasan ng ating mamamayan,” he added.
He said the Philippines is the lone country in Asia and one of the three in the whole world which still has a 10-year basic education.
The Universal Kindergarten was implemented last year while the new curriculum for Grades 1 and 7 will be implemented this school year.
Under the program, a student will undergo a compulsory kindergarten, six years elementary education, four years junior high school and two years senior high school. — TJD, GMA News
