ABS-CBN: NO MORE DELAYS FOR THE DIGITAL SHIFT!

Lopez-owned broadcasting giant ABS-CBN, which has been undertaking digital terrestrial TV (DTT) test broadcasts since August, said last week that the public is already clamoring for a shift to digital TV and that there’s no reason to further delay its rollout.

DTT is also known by the term digital TV or DTV.

PHL TO GET $1.4B INVESTMENTS FROM JAPAN!

MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III returned to the Philippines Wednesday, bringing some good news from his Japan state visit. He said Japanese firms are ready to pour in $1.4-billion worth of investments into the Philippines.

One agreement that coincided with the President's visit is Marubeni Corporation's deal with Aboitiz Power to expand the 735-megawatt coal-fired Pagbilao power plant for $600 million to $700 million.

IRONY: GOOGLE'S ANDROID USERS TO PAY MICROSOFT FOR ROYALTIES!

Microsoft on Wednesday announced a cross-licensing of its patent portfolio with Samsung that will leave Samsung paying a royalty to Microsoft for each smartphone and tablet it sells running Google's Android operating system.

Samsung will also "agreed to cooperate in the development and marketing of Windows Phone," Microsoft said in a statement, describing the agreements as a partnership.

Google, obviously unhappy that the largest seller of Android phones will pay Microsoft to use an operating system Google doesn't charge anyone to use, described the agreements with a patently different word -- extortion.

MICROSOFT FINALLY ROLLS OUT WINDOWS PHONE MANGO!

Months after getting relatively favorable reviews for it, Microsoft has started rolling out the latest version of its operating system for smartphones, Windows Phone 7.5 Mango.

The updated Mango OS has upgrades to communication tools and an improved communication hub with consumer experience being a top priority, tech site Mashable reported.

“Our top goal was product satisfaction," Microsoft’s Aaron Woodman said in an interview on Mashable.

Microsoft still lags behind Google's Android and Apple's iOS, but it expects a boost from a boost from Nokia’s upcoming smartphones using its Windows Phone OS.

FACEBOOK UPGARDES LOGOUT PROCESS AFTER THE STALKING ISSUE!

After an Australian hacker pointed out the issue, Facebook has altered its logout process to address concerns that it can still stalk users after they log out.

Nik Cubrilovic said that Facebook explained its process after he found the social networking giant's cookies - bits of information saved on a user's computer - still lets Facebook keep tabs on users.

GOOGLE UPDATES DASHBOARD!

Google has updated its Apps Status Dashboard that will give users of its productivity apps, such as Gmail, a better view of problems and issues affecting the services.

Site Reliability Engineer Manager Sumeet Pannu said this may be particularly useful for business and everyday users who expect their email and productivity tools “to just work."

“(We’ve) developed a new Apps Status Dashboard that we believe will give you accurate information faster. The former day-by-day design will be replaced by the new dashboard which gives a more clutter-free status with a single, continuous timeline," Pannu said in a blog post.

EVEN WHEN LOGGED OUT, FACEBOOK CAN STILL TRACK YOU!

Facebook users, be warned: the social network giant may still be able to track you even after you log out of your session. This was the finding of an Australian hacker who said Facebook's "cookies" —bits of information saved on a user's computer— still lets Facebook keep tabs.

"(L)ogging out of Facebook only de-authorizes your browser from the web application, a number of cookies (including your account number) are still sent along to all requests to facebook.com. Even if you are logged out, Facebook still knows and can track every page you visit. The only solution is to delete every Facebook cookie in your browser, or to use a separate browser for Facebook interactions," hacker Nik Cubrilovic said in a blog post.

He also noted Facebook's new application programming interface (API) allows applications to post status items to one's Facebook timeline without user intervention.
